Terms of Service
Effective date: 31 October 2026
These terms apply to the iTag app for Android ("the app"). It is part of InfoLife and run by Pii Mobile Limited ("we", "us"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. How can you use the app?
We give you a personal, non-exclusive permission (a licence) to use the app on Android devices that you own or control, for your own personal and non-commercial use. You cannot transfer this permission to anyone else, and we can cancel it as explained in these terms. Unless the law allows it, you must not copy, change, share, sell, reverse engineer, or take apart (decompile) the app. You also must not use the app in any way that breaks the law or Google Play's terms.
You are responsible for the files you edit, and you must have the right to use them. Because editing changes your files, please keep a backup of music that matters to you.
2. What does the app do?
iTag lists the songs and albums on your phone and lets you edit the tags (title, artist, album, album artist, genre, year, track, disc, and comment) of MP3, FLAC, M4A, and OGG files (other formats are view only). You can also find an album cover online, set an image from your phone, or remove a cover. "Fix garbled tags" detects tags saved in old Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Western encodings, shows a preview, and rewrites them as Unicode. "Find missing covers" looks up covers for albums without one. On Android 11 and later, Android asks you before files are modified. Only the fields you edit are written, and the audio is not changed.
Detecting an old encoding is a best guess. When the app is unsure, it shows you and lets you pick. Online cover search uses the MusicBrainz database and the Cover Art Archive, which are independent third-party services that may change or be unavailable. Album covers belong to their respective owners, and search results may not match your music. You decide whether to save a cover and are responsible for using it lawfully (for example, for your own music library).
3. Why are there ads in the app?
The app is free to use, with no in-app purchases, and shows ads from our ad partners, including Google. These ads come from outside companies (third parties). We are not responsible for what is in the ads or for any products or services they offer. Please read our Privacy Policy to see how ad partners handle data.
4. How is your privacy handled?
Our Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles. It is part of these terms.
5. Will the app change or update?
We may update, change, or stop offering the app or any of its features at any time. You may need to install updates to keep using the app.
6. Who owns the app?
The app, along with its name, logo, and content, belongs to us or our licensors. Third-party open source parts (including the tag library jaudiotagger, under the LGPL) are used under their own licence agreements. Music files and album covers belong to their respective owners.
7. Are there any guarantees or warranties?
We provide the app "as is" and "as available". We make no promises or warranties of any kind, whether stated directly (express) or implied, including warranties that the app is fit for a particular purpose or does not infringe anyone else's rights. We do not promise that the app will be free of errors, that every file can be read or edited, that encoding detection is always right, or that cover search will find the right cover.
8. What is our responsibility if something goes wrong?
As far as the law allows, we are not responsible (liable) for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses. We are also not responsible for any lost data, lost profits, or loss of use that comes from using the app, including damaged or changed music files or tags. However, nothing in these terms limits any legal responsibility that cannot be limited under the law, or takes away your legal (statutory) rights as a consumer.
9. How can these terms end?
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. Edited files stay as they are. We may end your permission (licence) to use the app if you break these terms.
10. Which country's laws apply?
New Zealand laws govern these terms. However, this does not take away any mandatory consumer protection rights you have under the laws of the country where you live.
11. What happens if we change these terms?
We may change these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the latest version started. If you keep using the app after we make a change, it means you accept the new terms.
